Roast of Vicki Russell May 2012 : Over 300 of Vicki Russell’s closest friends, family and co-workers gathered at the Holiday Inn Executive Center on May 31, to enjoy an evening of laughter as each roaster “burned” her at the stake! As the publisher of the Columbia Daily Tribune, Russell is very active in the community and is the first woman to be roasted at this annual fundraising event. This year’s Roast was presented by the Bank of Missouri and raised over $70,000 to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Mid Missouri Chapter. The evening began with a warm welcome from Doug Pugh, a local attorney and the evening’s emcee. Pugh offered his own touch of humor to the event and provided some of the evening’s best zingers. Mary Carnahan, another Columbia attorney and long-time friend of Russell’s, shared some funny stories of their many travels together while Bob Roper, former attorney, banker and current part-time Tribune columnist, told about his many “conservative” dealings with Russell. Mary Waters had lots of humorous stories from the family perspective and as former head of HR at the Tribune, and Jim Robertson brought down the house with many anecdotes recalling his years of working alongside Russell at the Tribune. Larry Atterberry and Joe Bechtold helped raised a record amount of money during the live auction which featured a St. Louis get-away, a hot air balloon ride, several hunting packages, MU Tiger tickets, and a ladies dream package. Roast of Joe Moseley : The Alzheimer’s Association honored long-time supporter Joe Moseley at the Roast of Joe Moseley. The fundraiser brought together friends and fans for a night of skewering at the Holiday Inn Select in Columbia with $62,000 in proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. Roasters took turns telling jokes on Moseley’s behalf starting with Jim Ritter, former Superintendent of Columbia Public Schools and Joe Moseley’s principal. Ritter outlined the timeline of Moseley’s life and included stories with punchy endings that kept the audience laughing. Bill Rotts, Moseley’s former staff member, followed with tales of working in the Prosecuting Attorney’s office. US Senator Claire McCaskill finished the night with references to their work together in politics, public service and school. McCaskill said the night seemed surreal as she stood on stage and listened to her former principal tell off-color jokes all in good fun. The laughter was peppered with performances by Bill Bondeson, guest auctioneer, and Bob Gering, emcee. Throughout the evening select auction items were sold during a live auction including travel packages to St. Louis, Rocheport, and the upcoming MU vs. KU football game. The Roast of Joe Moseley was brought to you by Boone Hospital Center, Shelter Insurance, Woodrail Centre, Flatbrunch Pub & Brewing and promoted by Inside Columbia magazine, the Columbia Daily Tribune, and KFRU News Talk 1400. The Alzheimer’s Association - Mid-Missouri Chapter serves 29 counties in central Missouri and relies on support and volunteer assistance from friends throughout the community. Individual and corporate financial support are crucial to our continued service.

Our mission:
To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
